The Department of Military Veterans Internship Prgoramme 2016: DMV Vacancies
Location: Pretoria
Stipend: R5000
The Department of Military Veterans (DMV) has thrown open the doors to its 12-month internship program in Pretoria—an opportunity that’s not just about fetching coffee or making copies. This is a proper, hands-on experience designed to give unemployed graduates (aged 18 to 35) a real shot at developing their skills in a professional environment. And let’s be clear—this isn’t some remote gig. Interns will be right in the thick of it at the DMV Head Office in Hatfield, so having your own transport and sorting out accommodation is a must. Oh, and if you’re a military veteran or a dependent who ticks all the boxes, you’ll get a leg up in the selection process. One big caveat, though: if you’ve already got work experience or have done a government internship in your field of study, this isn’t for you.
Here’s the breakdown of what’s on offer:
Labour Relations Interns – 2 Posts (Ref No: DMV 12/04/2016)
If you’ve got a three-year degree in Business Management under your belt and can talk the talk—and write it, too—this could be your spot. Just make sure you’re between 18 and 35.
Administrative Assistant Interns – 2 Posts (Ref No: DMV 13/04/2016, Office of the CFO & Director Financial)
This one’s for the organizers and the detail-oriented. A diploma or degree in Office Management or Public Administration (or something equivalent) is what they’re after.
Financial Accounting Management Interns – 5 Posts (Ref No: DMV 14/04/2016, Chief Directorate: Financial Management)
Numbers your thing? If you’ve got a diploma or degree in Financial Accounting—or something similar—you’re in the running for one of these five spots. If you’re interested in other finance internships, check out the Nelson Mandela Bay opportunities.
Administrative Assistant Interns – 5 Posts (Ref No: DMV 15/04/2016, Directorate: Office of the Director-General)
Another shot for the admin whizzes. Same deal as above: a diploma or degree in Office Management or Public Administration (or equivalent) is what you’ll need.
Human Resource Administration Interns – 2 Posts (Ref No: DMV 16/04/2016, Directorate: Human Resources Management)
If HR or psychology is your jam and you’ve got the qualifications to back it up, this could be your chance to get your foot in the door.
How to Apply for Department of Military Veterans Internship Opportunities / Careers
The Z83 form is the only way to apply—download it from the official portal or pick one up at any Public Service Department. But don’t stop there. Pack your CV with every detail—your work history, every qualification, and every certification. Attach certified copies of your ID, driver’s license, and service records. If your degrees came from abroad, a SAQA evaluation is mandatory.
Non-South African citizens? Bring proof of permanent residency. And listen closely: if you’ve faced disciplinary action, criminal charges, or any red flags, disclose them. Three references—full names, addresses, and phone numbers—are required. No exceptions.
Skipping even one document could sink your application. The department won’t entertain incomplete submissions, especially if experience is a key requirement.
Yet, applying for multiple roles? Submit a fresh Z83 for each one. The department decides the interview schedule—no flexibility. If you haven’t heard back within three months of the closing date, move on. That’s your answer.
Shortlisted candidates face a security clearance and SAQA verification. Only they’ll get follow-up correspondence.
Here’s the catch: military veterans get preference.
Unless stated otherwise, mail your application to the Director-General at Private Bag X943, Pretoria, or hand-deliver it to the corner of Festival and Arcadia Streets in Hatfield. Quote the reference number.
Deadline: May 6, 2016.
This isn’t just another job opening—it’s a chance to build a career with the Department of Military Veterans.
Don’t let the deadline pass you by.
